Master Bedroom Window Progress

Hey friends!

As you all may know, we completed construction on our "forever home" in November 2016 and we're slowing turning our new house into a home. I've mentioned several times on Instagram that I want to find the perfect decor for each and every space in our home -- even if that means waiting until I find it. (Or we can afford it!) I'm very selective when it comes to furnishing and decorating. I don't really buy many things on a whim or just because it's on sale.

We've been searching for the perfect window treatments for our master bedroom since we moved in. Since our master bedroom side windows look directly into our dining nook, we needed privacy. As a temporary fix, I hung $4 paper shades until we could find something that met our needs. (They're translucent -- so you can't see through them, but they let tons of light in.) Turns out, I really liked the way they made the room feel!

After living in our home for a year, I knew exactly what I wanted for our master bedroom windows: I wanted a permanent (and prettier!) translucent shade but I also wanted a blackout shade for when life calls for those Sunday afternoon naps. But how can I have BOTH of those!? I had the hardest time finding a treatment that met both of those needs. One day after a pretty heavy web search, I found these gorgeous dual roller shades from Smith and Noble

I requested free samples of their translucent shades and opaque blackout shades in the colorways I felt complimented our master bedroom the best. I still wanted to keep the room neutral, airy, and bright, so I chose white and light gray samples.

The samples arrived fast and I was able to feel and compare all of the fabric choices and see how they would look in our master bedroom lighting.

I chose "Summer/White 12672" for the translucent shade and "Celestial Opaque/Crystal 17266" for the opaque blackout shade. (Pictures don't do the blackout fabric justice -- it has a beautiful silver shimmer to it!)

I measured the windows and ordered the shades via a quick phone call with one of their wonderful sales reps. She was so helpful in clearing up any questions I had about the shades. About two weeks later, our custom shades arrived and my husband and I installed them in about an hour.

Folks, we LOVE these dual roller shades! I can lower the blackout shade for mornings I want to sleep in (who am I kidding?!) and we always have a gorgeous filtered light throughout the day. I also love that the cords have a wall anchor to keep them safe for my little ones.

Let me also mention that Smith & Noble has a free measuring service if you aren't exactly handy with a tape measure and a free design service if you're unsure of what you want!

(You can see above the difference between the blackout shade, the translucent shade, and the open window.)

Our next step is to purchase curtains and rods and finish off these windows. I'm wanting an antique nickel rod (to match the hardware on our dresser and nightstands) and some gorgeous white curtains. I also have mirrored frames to create a gallery on the large blank wall on the left side of the room. Slowly but surely I'll get there, check back soon for more progress!

Disclosure: I received these shades at a discount in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.
